Fun Shopping Awaits at Greer Station

Shopping on vacation is always fun, but it’s especially enjoyable in downtown Greer where stores occupy historical commercial buildings dating back to the early 20th century. With weathered brick walls, gracefully arched doorways, stately columns and century-old wood flooring, these small retail outlets make a day of shopping a wonderful cultural experience.

An extensive city restoration project brought the downtown corridor back to life after years of neglect. Renamed Greer Station, the area is now humming with foodie-centric restaurants, hip coffee shops and a wide assortment of stores, offering everything from trendy apparel to wine and craft beer.

Fashion 

But not all the shops are new to the neighborhood. Smith & James, a fine men’s clothing store, celebrated its 100th year in business in 2019 and is as popular as ever, drawing customers with brands like Southern Tide, Cole Haan and Tommy Bahama. The store also sells its own “Tailgatin” line of clothing featuring logos of a University of South Carolina Gamecock or Clemson Tiger leaning on a palmetto tree.

Empire Ltd. Haberdashery & Tuxedos is another men’s clothing store on Trade Street, Greer Station’s main thoroughfare. It sells gently worn clothing, shoes and accessories, along with custom bow ties made from cotton, silk and vintage fabrics.

Women have several good options for fashions. Next door to Smith & James is Chelsea’s Ladies Clothing and Accessories, known for its upscale designer brands. Southern Sisters Boutique carries clothing for all ages along with handmade jewelry designed by one of the shop owners. For shoes, hit the upscale Talloni, A Shoe Salon.

Antiques

If you’re in the market for antiques, drop by The Galleries of Brian Brigham, featuring an expansive collection of antiques; costume, estate and fine jewelry; as well as new home furnishings. At Plunder, find a host of repurposed vintage treasures for gifting or your personal pleasure.

Food, Drink, Art

At the end of Greer Station, just before the railroad tracks is La Bouteille, a specialty wine and beer shop housed in the city’s historic train depot. Here you’ll find 200-plus wines along with craft and imported beer from around the world. Enjoy tastings in the Biergarten and free wine and beer sampling every day.

For gifts and home decor, don’t miss The Shoppes Off Trade, an artisan boutique with a beautiful selection of handcrafted art, clothing, jewelry, chocolate and more. Large front windows and high ceilings create a light, airy ambiance, inviting shoppers to linger for hours as they peruse the tables and shelves chockful of unique items.

You’ll also find locally made pottery, wood crafts, jewelry and more, along with fresh-from-the-farm produce, at the Greer Farmers Market, open 8:30 a.m. to noon every Saturday from May through October in Greer City Park. This fun event features live music and activities for the kids.
